AI in recruitment: How TechKareer is connecting global startups with top Indian talent.
In a tech landscape where talent is the ultimate currency, one entrepreneur is on a mission to bridge the gap between global startups and India’s top-tier engineering minds. Harsh Agrawal, founder of TechKareer, is rewriting the rules of recruitment by blending AI-driven efficiency with deep human insight, creating a platform that not only connects companies with talent but also champions quality and purpose.
A Journey Forged in Code and Community
Harsh’s path wasn’t a straight line to recruitment. A tech entrepreneur at heart, his journey began with DevKit, an AI-powered developer toolkit that garnered over 8,000 signups and attracted attention from top VCs like Sequoia and A16Z. This experience gave him a firsthand understanding of the developer world and the startup ecosystem.
The idea for TechKareer sparked accidentally. Harsh started by informally connecting his founder friends with developers in his network who were seeking jobs. He recalls, “I was able to help connect both of these parties… candidates… are getting their very first internship, and founders are hiring their very first team member, which they know comes from a referral they can trust”. Realizing the immense value he was creating, he launched TechKareer in April 2024 to formalize this mission.
A New Model for Tech Hiring
TechKareer distinguishes itself from traditional hiring platforms through its unique, semi-automated approach. It leverages AI to handle the heavy lifting of sourcing and ranking thousands of applicants but relies on crucial human checks to ensure quality and uncover “hidden gems”. “We don’t say that we are completely 100% powered by AI,” Harsh explains. “We do have AI in our pipeline, but we also have human checks, so that we make sure that we don’t miss out on any great talent”.
This hybrid model delivers remarkable results. The platform boasts an 85% net hiring rate and a 95% offer rate from engaged companies, figures significantly higher than the industry average. For founders, this means moving from thousands of applicants to a curated list of five to ten high-quality, pre-vetted candidates, drastically cutting down hiring time and costs. TechKareer’s specialization in engineering roles, backed by Harsh’s own technical background, allows for deeper quality checks—from verifying live projects to assessing specific domain expertise.
Championing Indian Talent on a Global Stage
At its core, TechKareer is a vehicle for showcasing the best of India’s tech talent to the world. The platform almost exclusively focuses on a talent pool from India, helping startups in the USA, Dubai, Singapore, and beyond build their teams. Harsh is tackling the long-standing perception issue regarding the quality of outsourced talent by implementing rigorous vetting processes. “It all at the end of the day boils down to quality,” he states, emphasizing that his platform finds talent that companies otherwise wouldn’t discover themselves.
The company has served over 20 clients across a diverse range of industries, from a B2B SaaS building a Stripe alternative for India to a HealthTech company focused on cancer detection. This success is driven by a lean team of Harsh and two interns, amplified by the power of their custom-built AI systems.
The Road Ahead: Scaling with Purpose
Harsh has a bold vision for the future. He aims to grow TechKareer’s talent pool to one million people and, by 2030, to have impacted one billion people’s careers through educational content or direct services. The next step is a self-serve platform, allowing companies to subscribe for a small monthly fee, access the talent pool, and run a streamlined hiring process with minimal friction.
As he puts it, the ultimate goal is to help people find joy in their work. “All of us humans spend like two-thirds of our lives working,” he reflects. “So we should be working at places which bring us the most joy”. By building a bridge founded on trust, quality, and technology, Harsh and TechKareer are not just filling positions; they are empowering a generation of Indian talent and helping build the defining companies of tomorrow
