Centre digitizing farm-oriented schemes via Aadhaar

The centre is planning to digitise all its farm-oriented schemes and ensure farmers are paid procurement prices directly. It is launching an Aadhaar-based database that will also map landholdings of beneficiaries.

In the first phase, they plan to have the database of details of 50 million farmers across nine states.

As per Vivek Agarwal, (Joint Secretary of recently created Digital Agriculture Division), the database, to be completed by June 30, will have satellite imagery to map each individual farm land to give advice on what to grow for maximum productivity on what type of land.

This database, according to Agarwal, may be shared with farm technology companies for developing innovative solutions to increase productivity. Also this will enable Direct Benefit Transfer to farmers’ bank accounts.
